Configure notifications and troubleshoot push alerts

Each member manages their own notification preferences. Admins cannot choose personal delivery channels for another member.

Choose which notifications you receive

Use either of these paths:

  • Select the bell button in the top navigation, then select the gear button.
  • Select your profile image in the top navigation, select Account, then select Notifications.

On Notification preferences:

  1. Find the activity under Notify me when. Admins also have Me as an admin.
  2. Select or clear the available In-app, Push, and Email checkboxes.
  3. Select Save.

Select Discard before saving if you want to restore the settings from when you opened the view. To stop page-update notifications without changing every preference, open that page, select Following, and confirm Unfollow.

Enable push notifications in the mobile app

  1. Open the coapp mobile app and sign in to the community.
  2. Open More.
  3. Select Enable push notifications when this action is shown.
  4. Allow notifications in the device prompt. If permission was previously denied, select Open Settings in the coapp prompt and allow notifications for coapp in the system settings.

The Push checkbox in coapp and the device permission are separate. Both must be enabled for that activity to produce a push alert.

Pause notifications temporarily on the web

  1. Select your profile image in the top navigation.
  2. Select Pause notifications.
  3. Choose an End date and Time.
  4. Optionally enter an Away notice. People in a direct chat with you can see that notifications are off and the notice you entered.
  5. Select Pause.

To resume earlier, open your profile-image menu, select Notifications paused, then select Delete.

Troubleshoot missing push notifications

Check these points in order:

  1. In Account > Notifications, confirm that Push is selected for the activity and select Save.
  2. In your phone's system settings, open the notification settings for coapp and allow notifications.
  3. Confirm that you were a recipient of the activity. Mentions, replies, role changes, page updates, and event activity notify only the relevant people.
  4. Open the coapp mobile app. If the app shows Enable push notifications under More, select it and allow access.
  5. Sign out of the mobile app and sign in again to renew the device registration.
  6. If the problem remains, update or reinstall the app, sign in, and allow notifications again.

When contacting support, include whether you use iOS or Android, your app version, the affected community, the approximate time, and the type of notification you expected. Do not include your password or sign-in code.

No number appears on the app icon

The current coapp mobile app does not show an unread-notification count on its app icon. If push alerts arrive and the bell inside coapp indicates unread activity, your notifications are working as expected even when the app icon does not show a number.
