Manage page members, roles, joining, and following

A page distinguishes between people who manage or contribute to it and people who only follow its updates.

  • Owners can edit and delete the page, add members, and change roles.
  • Contributors can publish posts on the page.
  • Followers receive notifications about every post on the page.

Add a member​

Use Add member when you want to give specific people access directly instead of waiting for them to join or request access. This is the only way to add the first members to a private page, because non-members cannot discover that page.

As a page owner:

  1. Open the page.
  2. Select Add member beside the page title or in the Members card.
  3. Enter at least two characters of a member's name in the search field.
  4. Select one or more community members from the results.
  5. Select Save.

Added members become contributors. They can access the page and publish posts in its Posts feed. On a page with exclusive content, this also gives the contributor access needed to work with the protected page content without selecting a membership plan.

Manual access is therefore not a read-only permission. If someone should only read exclusive content, include access in their membership plan instead of adding them as a page member.

To give the person full page-management access after adding them, open Members, select All, open their action menu, and select Make Owner.

Change or remove a member's role​

  1. Open the page.
  2. In the Members card, select All.
  3. Open the action menu beside the person.
  4. Select Make Owner, Make Contributor, or the available remove action.

The person who originally created the page cannot leave it. Other owners and contributors can select their role button on the page and confirm that they want to leave.

Process join requests​

If the page uses Members can request to join, requests appear in the Members card for page owners.

  1. Open the page.
  2. Under These members want to join, review the request.
  3. Select the accept or reject button.

An accepted member becomes a contributor.

Join a page​

Open the page and select Join. What happens depends on the setting chosen by the owner:

  • With Everyone can join, you become a contributor immediately.
  • With Members can request to join, the page shows Request sent until an owner responds.
  • With By Invitation Only, an owner must add you.

Private pages are not discoverable by non-members, so an owner must add the first members directly.

Follow or unfollow a page​

Anyone who can see the page can select Follow. Following gives you notifications about page posts without making you a contributor. To stop, select Following, then confirm Unfollow.
