Set up offers and requests with pages
Use channels and pages to give members a place to offer help, find collaborators, share job opportunities, or buy and sell items within the community. Admins set up the structure and explain how to use it; members add their offers and requests as posts and follow the pages that interest them.
A channel groups related pages. Each page holds a lasting introduction and a Posts feed for individual listings. You do not need a new page for every listing.
For example:
| Channel | Pages | What members post |
|---|---|---|
| Job board | Offers; Requests | Vacancies on Offers; job searches on Requests. |
| Marketplace | For sale; Wanted | Items offered for sale; items members are looking for. |
These are suggested names: you can name your own channels and pages to suit your community.
Set up the channel and pages in the web app
As a community admin:
- Select Manage → Channels & Pages → Channels, then Add channel. Enter a Channel name, such as “Job board”, and select OK. See Create and manage channels for the other entry point and plan limits.
- In the same channel list, open the three-dot menu beside the new channel and select Edit. Under Who can add pages to this channel, choose Admins if you want to maintain a small set of shared pages yourself, then select Save. Members can still join and post on those pages when the page settings allow it.
- Select the new channel in the left navigation and select Create. In Create page, enter “Offers” under Title and check the Channel. Choose Community page so all community members can find and read it. Under How can other members join?, choose Everyone can join so members can become contributors themselves. Select Create.
- Repeat for a “Requests” page. For all page-creation entry points, including smaller screens and mobile, see Create and configure a page.
- Return to the channel through the left navigation. Select Add Section → Text Section to explain which page to use, what a listing should contain, and how members should respond. Save the section. This introduction appears above the page list. You can also add an introduction to each page.
For example, ask members to include what they offer or need, a location or deadline where relevant, and their preferred way to respond. Agree on how members should mark an offer as filled or no longer available.
Publish an offer or request
In the web app:
- Select the channel in the left navigation, then open the relevant page, such as “Offers”.
- Select Join on the page if you are not already an owner or contributor. With Everyone can join, you become a contributor immediately.
- In the page's Posts area, select the post field. Write your listing and add any relevant images, files, or links.
- Check the destination and visibility in the composer, then select Post. Starting here selects the page; the post stays in its feed unless you also select the main community feed. See Choose where a post appears.
For other ways to open the composer, see Create a post. To find the channel in the mobile app, see Find pages and channels.
Read, follow, and contribute
| Action or content | Who has access in this setup? |
|---|---|
| Read the community page's introduction and posts | All community members, even without joining or following. |
| Publish a listing in its Posts feed | Page owners and contributors. Joining makes a member a contributor. |
| Follow updates | Members can select Follow on a page to receive notifications about its posts. Following alone does not grant permission to post. |
| Edit the page description and settings | Page owners and community admins. Contributors maintain their own posts rather than the page description. |
If posting is unavailable, check that you have joined the page. With Members can request to join, an owner must approve your request; with By Invitation Only, an owner must add you. See Page members, joining, and following.
Plan the transition before removing Market
- Set up the new channel and pages first, including instructions and an example post.
- Ask members to republish still-relevant offers and requests as posts on the appropriate page. Creating the pages does not move existing Market listings into them.
- Announce where future listings belong, explain joining and following, and save any information still needed from Market.
- Only then decide whether to permanently disable Market.
Page posts follow the normal post workflow: they do not use Market's category form or its automatic four-week closure. Ask authors to edit or delete outdated listings so readers can tell what is still available.
