Configure and use matchmaking

Matchmaking helps members find people with relevant profile information. It compares the custom profile fields that an administrator chooses for matching and displays a match score in the community member list. The score is calculated from those community-defined fields, without external AI models.

Enable or disable matchmaking​

Only administrators can change the community setting:

  1. Select Manage.
  2. Select Settings, then Features.
  3. Turn Matching on or off.

When Matching is off, members do not see match scores in the community list. Turning it on does not by itself choose what makes two profiles a good match.

Choose the fields used for matching​

Use custom fields for the information that members should share to improve matching, such as interests, skills, location, or topics.

  1. Open Community.
  2. Select the gear button, then select Custom fields.
  3. Create a field or edit an existing one.
  4. Select Use for matching.
  5. Save the field.

Explain to members why you request each field and let them know that complete, accurate profile information produces more useful results.

Find matching members​

  1. Open Community in the main navigation.
  2. Open the sorting menu above the member list.
  3. Select Relevance.

Members are shown with a percentage when a match score is available. The score shows how well your profile matches that person using the selected profile fields; it is not a recommendation or a guarantee that you should connect. Select a member to view their profile or use Message to start a conversation when available.

When no matches appear​

Check that Matching is enabled and that at least one useful custom field has Use for matching selected. Members need values in those fields before a score can be calculated. Ask members to update their profiles, then return to Community and select Relevance again.
