Create and publish an event
Creating an event gives community members a concrete opportunity to meet, share knowledge, or organize an activity together. A complete event makes it clear what is happening, who can join, and how people can contribute or participate.
Event-creation actions are visible only when your role has permission to create events. Their location depends on your current view and screen size.
Choose who can create events
Community administrators can control this permission. Open Manage > Settings > Permissions and change Who can create events. Choose whether everyone in the community can create events or only administrators can do so, then save the setting.
Open the event-creation form
Use any available entry point:
- In the web app's top navigation bar, select the + button (labelled Create when you point to it), then select Event.
- Select Events in the main navigation. At the top of the Events view, select Create. On a smaller screen, select the + button instead.
- Open My events, then select Create. On a smaller screen, select the + button instead.
- In the Next events panel, select Create event.
- If the event catalog is empty, select Create an event in the empty-state message.
- As an admin, select Manage > Events > Events, then select Create new event.
- In the mobile app, select the floating + button in the bottom-right corner, then select Event.
- To base a new event on one you already manage, open My events and open the existing event. In its management bar, select the three-dot button, then Duplicate.
The direct creation actions open the same blank event-creation form. Duplicate opens that form with details from the existing event; review all copied information before saving.
Enter the event details
- Enter a title and start and end dates and times.
- Choose the event format and participation option.
- Optionally select an event type and tags.
- Select Save as Draft or Save and Publish.
Save as Draft creates a hidden event. Save and Publish creates the event and opens the option to share it in the feed.
After creation, coapp opens the event detail view. People with event-management access see controls there for adding the description, header image, content sections, files, and organizers. These controls are not part of the initial creation form and are not visible to regular visitors. Use the publishing control to choose Public, Community Only, or Draft. When publishing, Share in feed can create a post about the event.
See Add event content, organizers, and updates for the available content-section types and their visibility.
For paid or free ticket types, capacity, taxes, and cancellation terms, see Create and manage event ticket types. For participant exports and refunds, see Manage event attendees and refunds.
See Make an event public or community-only for the exact visibility controls and the requirements for guest participation.
Use Preview as Member to check the member view before sharing the event.
The title, all four date and time values, and a valid link for online or hybrid events are required. The end cannot be earlier than the start.
