Choose who can create content
Content permissions let admins decide how members contribute to the community. For example, you can let all members post in the feed while reserving event creation for admins, or allow members with selected membership plans to create pages.
Each action has its own audience. Permission to create content is separate from permission to view existing content, manage an existing event, or contribute to an existing page.
Set the audience for an action
- In the web app, select Manage > Settings > Permissions.
- Expand Who can create events?, Who can create pages?, or Who can post in the feed?.
- Choose Only administrators, or choose Admins and members.
- Under Admins and members, choose All members or Members with specific plans. For specific plans, select at least one membership plan from the selector below.
- Select Save Changes in the header. Repeat for the other actions as needed.
The plans in this selector are the membership plans offered to members inside your community, rather than your community's coapp subscription. Admins remain included when you restrict members to selected plans. You cannot save a plan restriction with no plan selected.
Discard in the header reloads the saved settings. If changing an option or selecting Save Changes opens an upgrade prompt, your community's coapp plan does not include permission management.
What members experience
| Permission | Effect in the web app |
|---|---|
| Create events | Event-creation actions are shown to people with permission. Managing an existing event follows its organizer and creator roles. |
| Create pages | Page-creation actions require this permission. Within a channel, its setting for who can add pages also applies. |
| Post in the feed | The feed's post field and the Post entry in the creation menu are shown to people with permission. Sharing a post, page, or event as a feed post also requires this permission. |
The + creation menu shows the actions available to the member and can disappear when no actions are available. Turning off events or channels and pages for the community also removes the corresponding member-facing actions; see Manage community features.
Page owners and contributors can still publish updates within their page according to their page role. Event creators and organizers can publish event updates according to their event role. Keep these contributions separate from sharing content in the main community feed.
Video walkthrough
The official video Manage permissions in coapp — Berechtigungen in coapp verwalten (German) shows the three permission settings and an example using a membership plan named “Moderator”. It also demonstrates assigning the plan to a member and keeping admins included.
To prepare a similar workflow, create a membership plan, assign it to the intended members, then select it in the permission settings above. Naming a plan “Moderator” does not grant administrator rights.
