Assign and change a member's plan
Administrators can assign a plan to a member, schedule when it starts and ends, and change an existing membership. This is the appropriate workflow for individual exceptions, such as a different plan or optional upgrades for one member. It keeps the membership, payment settings, and invoice preview together.
Before assigning a paid plan, make sure billing is connected and the intended plan exists. See Create and manage membership plans.
Assign a plan to a member
- Open Manage > Community > Members and select the member.
- In the member's plan area, select Assign a plan or Select a plan.
- Choose the plan. If needed, select optional upgrades for this member.
- Set the subscription schedule shown in the membership form: the start date, optional end date, billing-cycle anchor, optional free trial, and how payment is collected.
- Decide whether to use Prorate when the selected schedule calls for it.
- Review the invoice preview, including the amount and date, before continuing.
- Select Assign subscription.
The invoice preview is an estimate of the next charge. Check it again whenever you change the plan, schedule, trial, payment collection method, or proration setting.
Change an existing membership
- Open Manage > Community > Members and select the member.
- In the member's current plan, open the three-dot menu.
- Choose Change to replace the plan, Customize to make an individual adjustment, or Remove to remove the plan.
- Update the schedule, payment collection method, and proration setting as needed.
- Review the updated invoice preview and select Update subscription.
Use Customize when the member needs a plan configuration that differs from the standard plan, such as different optional upgrades. Use Change when the member should move to one of your normal plans.
Change a plan's price
To change the standard price for future memberships, open Manage > Monetization > Plans, open the plan, and select Edit. Change the price under Pricing, then save the plan.
Existing memberships need their own review. Open each affected member's plan and use the change or customization flow above. Confirm the invoice preview before updating the subscription, especially when a change can create proration or a credit.
Manage upgrades
To change which upgrades are available with a standard plan, edit the plan under Manage > Monetization > Plans and update the Upgrades section. To change upgrades for one member only, use Customize from that member's current-plan menu.
If you change an upgrade itself, review each plan and membership that uses it before making further billing changes. Use the invoice preview to confirm the expected result.
